Guy's Blog a.k.a Stories of the Day

Why the blog?

Why the blog?

This blog has been developed to transmit the many stories that are created through personal deep nature connection experiences. It seems that each time I venture into the wilds, especially the American River Parkway, there is something that I feel deeply compelled to share. I want to pick up the phone and call my mom, or someone who will deeply listen, and the conversation usually starts with, “Oh my gosh- you’ll never believe what just happened!” Even if that person can’t relate, the told story breathes new life into the experience. And if it is left untold, sometimes the magic is lost, and the story may even just die. This blog is meant to keep that magic alive. It is my hope that you find inspiration and motivation in the stories that are shared!

In the past, stories were shared around a fire, and for millennia, these stories helped people survive because they shared information about food sources, and other patterns of the landscape. So, while blogging may have become a modern day version of sharing stories ‘round the fire, they still have the power to conjure up emotions, mind’s eye imagining, and they invoke feelings inside us that are tied to something connected to our ancient neurology.

“Storytelling is ultimately a creative act of pattern recognition. Through characters, plot and setting, a writer creates places where previously invisible truths become visible. Or the storyteller posits a series of dots that the reader can connect.” Douglas Coupland

“Sharing stories with others builds a collective knowledge much greater than the isolated experience of one person…Storytelling layers knowledge slowly built over time as a living oral library.” (Coyote’s Guide, Young, Hass, McGown, 2007).
