Coyote Coexistence Workshop Details

When:Thursday, October 18, 2018

Where:Sacramento area

Time:By appointment

This workshop will be featured at the Sacramento Audubon meeting in October, but it is available by request year-round. It is designed for broad public audiences and can be tailored to specific neighborhoods. It is presented by Guy Galante who has been documenting coyotes in the American River Parkway for almost 15 years.

Believe it or not, coyotes have lived alongside humans for over 15,000 years! Environmental and human factors have resulted in more coyote sightings in our region's urban and suburban neighborhoods. This has created both excitement and fear among residents. Roots of Connection has assumed a voluntary role with Project Coyote to provide outreach and educational materials to foster a peaceful understanding and coexistence with wildlife. Coyote Coexistence Plans and materials, created by Project Coyote, are designed to ensure human safety, minimize conflicts, and promote coexistence through mutual respect, fairness and empathy.

The workshop will provide: basic coyote information, discussion on why coyotes are around you, pet and child safety tips, attractants, tips for deterring coyotes, appropriate responses when encountering a coyote, and proper hazing techniques. Participants will receive print materials and links to additional resources that will help provide consistent messaging and shared language to similarly address coyote coexistence in our communities.
